Questions before you choose
Understanding Golden Retriever health records

When you consider a puppy, ask which records are available and what they mean. Parent screening, the puppy’s veterinary history, and written guarantee terms answer different questions. Read the documents and ask the veterinarian who will care for your puppy to explain anything you do not understand.
Ask about the parents’ screening records
The Golden Retriever Club of America describes hip, elbow, eye, and heart examinations for parents of a litter. Ask the breeder which examinations each parent has completed, when they took place, and where you can see the results. A general statement about screening does not tell you the result for a particular dog.
Bring the puppy’s records to your veterinarian
Collect the available examination, vaccination, deworming, and microchip information. Your veterinarian can review the dates, assess the puppy, and plan preventive care and follow-up for the individual dog.
Read the written coverage separately
LiveOak’s Health Guarantee sets out the conditions it covers, examination and claim deadlines, documentation, exclusions, remedies, and financial limits. Ask us about those terms before reserving. Screening and a normal examination cannot rule out every future health condition.
Keep a question list
- Which parent records can I review?
- What examination and preventive care has this puppy received?
- Which appointments and records are due after homecoming?
- How do I contact LiveOak with a records question or possible claim?
