Plan for the years ahead

Is a Golden Retriever right for your family?

Before you choose a puppy, look at an ordinary week in your home. Think about companionship, work schedules, children, resident pets, training, grooming, veterinary care, and time outside together. Your answers can help you decide whether now is the right time.

Make the daily care plan concrete

Decide who will supervise the puppy, handle toilet breaks, organize meals, and attend appointments. Discuss how responsibilities will change as the dog grows. Include a plan for days when the usual caregiver is away.

Prepare for grooming and household life

Golden Retrievers have a double coat, and grooming needs a place in your routine. Read our grooming guide, choose suitable supplies, and ask a groomer to demonstrate techniques for your dog. Agree on household rules before arrival.

Leave time for learning together

Reward-based training and manageable introductions can help a puppy learn household routines. Ask your veterinarian about safe socialization settings, and choose a trainer who explains how they will support your puppy. Our socialization guide offers questions to begin with.

Talk with the people raising the puppy

LiveOak’s About Us page explains our small home program and the way we communicate with families. Ask about a puppy’s current observations and records. Read the health and delivery terms before reserving, and take time to consider the commitment.
